I am an Indiana girl who grew up in a small country town who had always thought I could never become a great self-taught artist. I am starting to push that thought farther back in my head and strive to aw and mesmerize myself with my work, then others.
I have always drawn, on and off, all my life! Graphite used to be my medium of choice, but after my husband showed me how to work with charcoal, my mind was made! The first time I tried charcoal was in 2010. Again, I drew on and off; nothing serious, but in 2012 that would change! My husband and I moved to San Francisco and I did not have a job! He was making enough for both of us, so he told me to start concentrating on my drawings. Soon, what once was a time passing hobby turned into a part time job. Now, after one year in inspiring San Francisco, we are back in Indiana (Bloomington to be exact). I can't wait to see what is in store for me here and in coming years!
I love to create realism work with charcoal because I love the dramatic look of deep black and bright white; love the contrast! I create my work with paintbrushes instead of blending stumps/sticks. My favorite imagery to draw is anything vintage/antique in appearance or striking photos with dramatic lighting! I do dabble into other areas nevertheless. I like to either find my photo references from flea markets and antique shops, or take my own photos so they are truly unique.
I can be contacted for commission work as well. As long as someone has a good, high quality photo (or lets me take a photo), I can recreate it. I have done commissions of pets, people, memorial pieces, etc.. Just email brittnideweese@yahoo.com for details!
